World Traveler of the Month: Andreas Dharmawan, Globetrotting Tech Executive
International travel comes naturally to San Francisco-based Andreas Dharmawan, senior director of solutions and services for the development cloud solution company, Electric Cloud. Although he was reared in Jakarta, Indonesia, Dharmawan attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York for his B.A. in electrical and computer science engineering, and has also lived in Boston.
In his position, Dharmawan establishes and leads global technical sales teams and outsourcing operations in India, traveling to visit customers in that country, as well as in Singapore, Japan, Korea, the U.K., and Germany. He also qualifies and mentors resellers and partners on how to market and sell the latest Silicon Valley technologies in Asian and European markets.
He finds himself flying between six and ten times yearly between San Francisco International Airport and overseas destinations including Tokyo Narita, Shanghai Pudong, Singapore Changi, Bengaluru International, Munich, London Heathrow, Frankfurt, and Incheon International.
With so much long-distance travel under his belt, Dharmawan has found meditation and sleep to be the most effective means of combatting jet lag. “Sleep is the best,” he offers, “because it makes the long journey short, and I arrive relatively fresh.”
In Asia, Dharmawan’s favorite cities are Tokyo and Singapore, while in Europe he is most fond of Munich and London, enjoying the differences between the Asian and European centers. “Tokyo, Singapore, Shanghai, and Seoul are modern cities, with electrifying energy. Munich, London, and Madrid have thousands of years of history.”
Singapore Changi and Hong Kong International top his list of international airports, due to their modernity, courteous staff, lounge amenities, and shopping.
