Air Canada, a member of the Star Alliance, has announced that it has received notice from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) that the union workers intend to go out on strike, beginning Monday, March 12 at 12:01 a.m.

IAMAW represents Air Canada’s baggage handlers, mechanics and cargo agents in Canada. The union had rejected a tentative agreement that had resulted from federal mediation.

Air Canada advises customers to consult its Web site, rather than its call centers, for updates on whether an agreement has been reached, predicting that call center wait times will be long. The strike action is scheduled to occur in the middle of Canada’s peak March Break travel period.

In the meantime, Air Canada is operating on a normal schedule.
