World’s Largest Collection of Vintage Liquors For Sale
Netherlands-based collector Bay van der Bunt owns the world’s largest collection of vintage liquors, over 5000 bottles, including Armagnac, cognac, port, and whisky, some dating back 250 years. Many of the bottles are the only remaining bottles of certain spirits in the world.
Over the last 35 years, Van der Bunt added to the collection he inherited from his father by purchasing at auctions, including those held by Christies and Sotheby’s, and from well-known restaurants such as Le Cirque and Maxim’s. Some of the cognacs belonged to the Duke of Windsor, and some of the spirits date from 1789, the year of the French Revolution.
“Collecting cognacs and old liquors was very time-consuming and cost a fortune, but it proves to be the best financial investment I have ever made,” said Van der Bunt. With no heirs, Van der Bunt hopes to sell the collection to another collector. The price: $8 million.
