Starwood Hotels & Resorts will acquire a 49.8% interest in Design Hotels, a company that markets over 200 independently owned hotels in 40 countries including the Hotel Bachmair Weissach in Rottach-Egern (pictured).  Properties in the Design Hotels collection emphasize architecture and design and cultural authenticity.

Starwood is acquiring the stake from long-time partner Arabella Hospitality, which is refocusing its strategy on ownership and asset management.

The transaction, which is subject to anti-trust approval in Germany, is expected to close in Q1 2012.
