French Airport Security Staff Continue Strike
A strike by airport security staff in France continues for a sixth consecutive day after causing major disruptions
to outbound flights from Paris (Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle), Lyon, and Toulouse airports. The Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile (DGAC) reported yesterday that all airports except for Paris-CDG and Lyon were operating on schedule.
Air France’s Web site said it will operate its regular schedule on December 21. It did however caution that large items such as skis and golf bags will not be accepted at the airport in Lyon.
At least 30% of flights originating in Lyon were cancelled yesterday. Paris’ Orly airport is unaffected by the strike.. Yesterday, the French government threatened to deploy policemen in place of striking workers, and security staff at Nice’s airport also walked off the job.
The workers are demanding better working conditions and higher salaries. Talks to end the strike have stalled.
