Der Zauberlehrling, Stuttgart, Germany – Hotel Review
DINING
Having arrived late the first day, I wanted a light meal before going to sleep. Room service
offers the hotel’s gourmet menu from its restaurant (there is a cooking school run by the proprietor, Axel Heldmann, as well). I ordered the Schwabenstreich, an assortment of tasty appetizers, and it was served promptly.
A delicious buffet breakfast is served until 10:30 a.m. weekdays and noon on weekends and holidays. Egg dishes and pancakes are prepared to order (I had the pancakes, which were excellent).
BOTTOM LINE
One of the most quoted line from Goethe’s Zauberlehrling is “Besen, Besen! Seids gewesen” (Brooms, brooms, be as you were) and, while I did not see enchanted brooms sweeping by themselves at the hotel, there was a feeling of magic in the air. From the heartfelt welcome upon arrival to the gracious hospitality, it was clear that the staff had magical powers and used them to make my stay a very pleasant one.
