American Airlines Business Class Flight 20 San Francisco to New York JFK Review

THE FLIGHT

Shortly after our on-schedule takeoff, flight attendants served warm nuts and drinks, and took dinner orders. Dinner began with Prosciutto with Parmesan cheese and cantaloupe puree, then a salad of seasonal greens, mozzarella and cherry tomatoes, and entrée choices of beef fillet, with a béarnaise-style sauce and potato puree, or cheese tortellini, with Romano sauce. The fillet was tender and moist and of a petite size suitable for a flight that arrived late in the evening. Dine Upon Request was also available.

Dessert options were ice cream sundaes, or fruit and cheese, and flight attendants handed out bottles of water after dinner.

After take-off, flight attendants distributed Archos 705 Mobile DVR personal entertainment systems, with Bose noise-canceling headphones.  The easy- to-navigate touch screen allowed me to select from TV shows such as “30 Rock” and “Bones” and movies such as “Fargo,” and “Bridesmaids,” my viewing of which led me to the conclusion that gross-out humor is clearly no longer the exclusive provenance of male buddy comedies.  The system’s clear picture and sound quality made it easy to forget that the screen was only seven inches wide.

ARRIVAL
Flight attendants offered freshly baked cookies prior to landing, along with chilled sparkling or still water, accompanied by lemon or lime. The flight arrived at JFK about 20 minutes early, and with only carry-on luggage, I hopped the JFK Air Train to the Long Island Railroad, which put me in Penn Station within 30 minutes of arrival.

BOTTOM LINE

Flight attendants were efficient and cordial. I had everything I needed for work, comfort and entertainment on this evening flight, and an enjoyable dinner to boot. As a bonus,  SFO’s Terminal 2 proved to be a pleasure in which to spend time awaiting flights.
