Rosewood Sand Hill, Menlo Park, California – Hotel Review

DINING

Madera, the hotel’s Michelin star-rated restaurant, focuses on the culinary traditions of the West.   It’s tough to choose between the airy dining room and the outdoor terrace so I dined in both.  The meals were memorable, the service was impeccable, but what really stands out in my memory was the dessert I had both times, beignets accompanied by blackberry honey, and  the extremely knowledgeable sommelier, who turned me on to a Grüner Veltliner from Von Strasser in Napa Valley.

Breakfast is also served on the main restaurant and the inspiring views of the Santa Cruz Mountains from the deck (breakfast is served outside as well) made for a wonderful start of the day. I recommend the banana French toast.  It’s worth the flight out by itself.

BOTTOM LINE

While many true luxury hotels deliver superb service, just a few truly make guests feel pampered.  It was clear that the staff wanted guests to feel relaxed and enjoy their stay and they were able to anticipate some of my needs before I myself recognized them.  The Rosewood Sand Hill is one such place and I’ll be looking for excuses to visit the Silicon Valley area again just so I can stay here.
