There are numerous apps that allow business travelers to book hotels, flights, cars, and other travel-related things.  Here’s a quick rundown of six popular ones.  Be sure to look at the iTunes store ratings, which will give you an idea of how well they work over time.

iTunes store rating: 4 stars out of 5

The Expedia Hotels app allows travelers to search for and book a room at over 130,000 hotels worldwide.  The app also includes FlightTrack, which follows flights and provides updates (such as delays, gate information, departure and arrival times) and maps in real time.  The FlightBoard feature displays information similar to an arrivals and departures board at an airport.

Travelers can “name your own price” using Priceline’s Hotel Negotiator app. Simply confirm the region or neighborhood, the level of hotel (using a star rating system), and the dates for the reservation and bid away.  A separate app, Rental car negotiator, runs on the iPhone and works similarly.   Hotel Radar displays hotels nearby.

iTunes store rating : 2 stars out of 5 (current version 3 out of 5)

In addition to searching and booking hotels and flights, the app displays local gas stations, traffic, weather, and driving directions. A “Top Secret Hotels” feature offers unnamed deeply discounted hotel reservations.
