Lufthansa Frankfurt to New York (JFK) First Class Flight 400 – Review

Schwarzwald Special

Approximately two hours prior to landing, the cabin crew began to prepare the first-class cabin for another meal service.  The menu: the Schwarzwald Special, a selection of hearty Black Forest fare.  It was Vesper time!

The platter served to me had Schwarzwälder Schinken (Black Forest ham), Landleberwurst (farm style liverwurst sausage), Badische Landjäger (air-dried smoked salami), Kalbsfrikadelle (veal meatball), Rahmberger Käse (Ramberg cheese), radishes, gherkins, tomatoes, and grapes.

A separate plate had a Geräuchertes Forellenfilet (smoked filet of trout) with apple fennel salad and horseradish cream and there was a jar of apple-bacon schmalz on the side.  A bowl of potato soup was served separately.

For dessert, what else would fit this menu but Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (Black Forest cherry cake) and sliced fruit? I had to force myself to try the cake but once I tasted it, I had to finish it.

ARRIVAL

Soon we were landing at JFK a few minutes early.  First-class passengers were the first to deplane and thanks to Global Entry there was no wait for passport control or customs.  A short time later, I was on the Belt Parkway driving home.

BOTTOM LINE

This had to have been one of the most pleasant flights I have been on.  The service was exceptional, the cabin crew was friendly and accommodating, the food was unparalleled, and, except for stopping for the meal services, I was able to relax and work unimpeded.  I couldn’t have asked for anything more than that.
