Hilton Vienna Review, Austria
DINING
The Hilton Vienna has its own cake, the Klimttorte, which is in keeping with the hotel’s Jugendstil décor that is evocative of Viennese painter Gustav Klimt. It is delicious “mit Schlag” (with whipped cream) and a traditional Viennese coffee.
Guests staying on the executive floors can enjoy a complimentary breakfast in the executive lounge in the morning and drinks and a variety of tasty appetizers (warm and cold) in the evening. We found the lounge quite comfortable but the staff was a bit short and not overly friendly. This was not the case during my stay at the hotel in 2008 when I found the lounge attendants to be extremely pleasant and helpful.
My breakfast in the restaurant on the ground floor was pleasant. My request for my favorite morning drink, a mixture of carrot and apple juice, was immediately addressed with the appropriate beverage. The buffet, consisting of cheese, cold cuts, yogurt, cereal, breads, rolls, pastries, and croissant, was bountiful. Warm dishes (I tried the palatschinken, a Viennese crêpe which I grew up eating and still make at home as well as scrambled eggs) were only so-so.
BOTTOM LINE
My mother likes to tell the story of how, years ago, she heard strains of Johann Strauß waltzes from her room
in the Hilton and dragged my father off to the Kursalon in the Stadtpark for a waltz. This is something that falls into the “only in Vienna” category.
The Hilton Vienna has one of the best hotel amenities in the world, the Stadtpark as its backyard, but that’s not the only consideration in choosing a hotel. For the business traveler, regardless of whether he wishes to waltz or not, the hotel’s many services and amenities, ranging from the comfort of the executive lounge to its central location, make the Vienna Hilton a wonderful place to both work and enjoy the city from.
