DINING

An incredible breakfast is served daily from 7 o’clock in the morning until 11 in the Restaurant 3’60°.  The name of the restaurant is telling as the view from almost every table (and the outdoor terrace in warmer weather) is spectacular.  In addition to cold cuts, cheeses, cereals, Müesli, fruit, yogurts, juices, rolls, breads, pastries, and cakes, a cook will prepare eggs and waffles to order.

On my last visit, the gourmet restaurant Le Ciel wasn’t open so I was fortunate that I was able to eat there this time around.  The 12-table restaurant was just what I had imagined and I enjoyed a wonderful meal there. My review of the restaurant is online here.

LEISURE

The hotel has an activities director and special activities, ranging from hiking to excursions, are scheduled throughout the day.  Other possible activities include horseback riding, biking, tennis, paragliding, water aerobics, and boating on the Königssee.  The chef, Ulrich Heimann, often takes guests on hikes, showing them where herbs are grown or trout is farmed.

The staff is genuinely interested in finding fun things for guests to do. Every day, a newsletter with scheduled activities and a weather forecast was put under my door.

The Mountain Spa offers a variety of treatments that use indigenous ingredients.  The spa has heated indoor and outdoor pools plus two saunas, a steam bath meditation room, and treatment rooms for massages.  The fitness center never closes.

BOTTOM LINE

Returning to a hotel where I had an unforgettable visit the first time around can be tricky.  What if the property isn’t everything I remember it tobe? Did my recollection of it become at all romanticized with the passage of time?  In the case of the InterContinental Resort Berchtesgaden, my fears were unfounded.  It turned out that, if anything, the hotel and view had simply gotten even better over time.  The staff did even more to make my stay enjoyable than on the previous visit (although I am not sure how that was even possible). Now I can’t wait until my next stay.
